Recipe for Stove Top Homemade Chili – A Simple Chili Recipe the Whole Family will Love

It’s that time of year when the weather can be beautiful one day and then turn harsh the next.  That’s one of the things we love about fall.  We get that taste of colder weather without actually having to say goodbye to summer just yet.

Yes, we do love our fall …. and this simple recipe for homemade chili on those first cold nights!

We must admit we’re not ready to let go of summer and we will take every warm day we can get.  But on these colder days you will always find us making a big pot of CHILI!

It’s hard to believe that something this delicious can be made in around 20-25 minutes! You are going to love this simple chili recipe!

We tend to make chili often in the winter and love to experiment with different chili recipes.  What always amazes us is that most recipes call for just one can of kidney beans and a rather small amount of sauce or broth. Well, this simple chili recipe has plenty of beans!

So here is one of our favorite recipes that puts SOME BEANS in that chili!  Bean it up!

Ingredients for Easy Stove Top Chili:

  • Lean ground beef
  • Onion – we use yellow onion
  • Garlic – fresh garlic
  • Kidney beans – dark red or light red is fine
  • Black beans – or you can use all kidney beans
  • Diced tomatoes – find your favorite brand of diced tomatoes
  • Beef broth – can also substitute chicken broth
  • Tomato sauce – look for your favorite brand as there are some differences in tomato sauce
  • Brown sugar
  • Seasonings: Chili powder, dried cumin, dried oregano and paprika

How to Make Simple Chili in just Two Easy Steps!:

  • Brown your ground beef, onions and garlic. (You can add a little oil to the pan if necessary. Always salt and pepper the meat as it browns.)

Why we Love to Serve and Eat Homemade Chili!

Chili is a great way to eat a nutritious meal that is fast and cheap.  You can save money by using less ground beef and more beans to make a delicious filling dinner.  Add in some cheddar cheese biscuits and you’ve got a great fall or winter meal.

If you are looking for something quick to make for dinner on Halloween, this is just perfect!  Start a new tradition this year that your kids will love.  Make a big pot of chili and some cheddar cheese biscuits for Halloween night.  No matter what you have planned, this is always a warm welcome home after a busy night.

Have a “Chili” night and make a big pot of chili and everyone has a warm meal no matter what time they get home! Chili will keep well on the stove, just add a little water if it gets too thick.

Chili makes a great packed lunch. Just heat the chili and take for a delicious lunch.

How to Store Leftover Chili

Chili is easy to reheat to eat later in the week, simply place in a microwave-safe bowl and reheat for about 1 minute. Store chili for up to 4-5 days in a airtight container in the refrigerator. If chili is too thick add a little bit of water or broth to thin before heating.

You can also freeze leftover chili for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat the next day.

You can also easily reheat the chili on your stovetop. Let simmer on medium-low for about 5 minutes or until hot.
