Try these Easy Salmon Patties Using Canned Salmon for an Easy Dinner

Salmon is a healthy and low-fat fish that we love to serve often. You will never run out of ways to serve your family salmon when you learn how to make these easy salmon patties using canned salmon.

Canned salmon is nice to have on your shelf for those times when you have no idea what to make for dinner and very little time. (And that seems to happen a lot!)

You will fall in love with these easy salmon patties for a couple of reasons! They are quick and delicious and so simple to prepare. Dijon mustard is a perfect combination with the salmon – add a little extra if you love mustard!

Crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Yum!  We also add just a little Parmesan cheese at times to the mix.  About 1 tablespoon of shredded Parmesan cheese is all you need.

What Ingredients are Needed for Salmon Patties:

  • Can of Salmon
  • Regular Breadcrumbs
  • Eggs
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Onion Powder
  • Butter
  • Oil

How to Easily Make Canned Salmon Patties:

Step 1.  Drain all the liquid from the canned salmon. Remove any of the skin of bones from the salmon.
Step 2.  Mix together the salmon, breadcrumbs, mustard, eggs, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Step 3.  Form salmon into 4 large patties using your hands.
Step 4. Melt butter in a large skillet.
Step 5.  Brown salmon patties on both sides, about 4 minutes per side.

Ingredients
  • 1 (14.75 oz.) can salmon
  • 1/2 cup regular breadcrumbs plus a little more for dusting
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten with the mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • salt
  • pepper
Instructions
  1. Drain liquid from the salmon and gently remove any bones or skin. Combine salmon, breadcrumbs, mustard, onion powder, eggs, salt, and pepper.

  2. Form salmon mixture into 4 patties.
  3. Melt butter and oil in a large skillet.
  4. Brown salmon patties on both sides (about 4 minutes per side).

Salmon patties are easy to prepare and make for a delicious dinner. Once you make these patties you will make them often.  Always keep some canned salmon in your pantry for this quick dinner idea.

We like to empty the fish into a strainer and pick through with our fingers. Remove any skin or bones. Tip – Mix the patty ingredients together but leave the bowl to chill in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes before forming the patties.

Form 4 patties and lightly dust with a little additional breadcrumb before frying.

How to Fry Canned Salmon Patties

Let the salmon patties fry until you have a nice crispy coating on the outside. Always let the oil heat up before dropping the patties in the pan.

  • Serve with lemon wedges and a fresh homemade dill sauce.

How to Make Fresh Dill Sauce for Canned Salmon Patties –

Fresh Dill Sauce

– Mix together

  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoons fresh chopped dill leaf.

What Goes with Canned Salmon Patties?

  • If you are looking for a lighter dinner to save calories, then serve your salmon patties with a tossed salad or a side of sauteed zucchini.
  • Rice – any type of rice is fine as long as it’s your favorite rice. Cauliflower rice is great if you are saving calories. Lemon Rice for added flavor.

Simply store leftover patties in an airtight container for about 3 days. Reheat in the microwave.
