Everyone at the holiday dinner table will love this Christmas Lima Bean Recipe! We are so sure you will love this lima bean recipe because it’s got bacon and cheese. A Baked Lima Bean Casserole that travels well too! So make this in advance and pack it to go to any holiday dinner table.

Baked Lima Beans for Christmas and Thanksgiving Dinner

There is always that one “famous” holiday dish that makes it to the table year after year.  It becomes so famous that the holidays would not seem quite right without it.  Well here is one of those dishes! Also read more on – are lima beans good for you?

Baked lima beans with cheese and bacon – holiday delicious! You may even tempt those lima bean haters into lovers.

This is a delicious lima bean recipe that’s packed with flavor from the crunchy bacon and the warm melted cheese.

Ingredients Needed for Christmas Lima Bean Recipe:

  • Frozen Lima Beans – You can use either baby lima beans or the larger Fordhook lima beans
  • Bacon – we just use regular bacon for this recipe
  • Onion
  • Celery
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & Pepper



 

How to Make Baked Christmas Lima Beans

STEP 1.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

STEP 2.

Cook lima beans in salted water for 15 minutes; drain, reserving 1/2 cup of cooking liquid.

Step 3.

In a large nonstick skillet, fry diced bacon until about half cooked. With a slotted spoon, remove bacon to paper towels to drain; discard all but 2 tablespoons of grease.

Step 4.

Cook onion and celery in bacon grease until softened.

Step 5.

In a large bowl, toss together lima beans, onion, celery, cheese, a little bit of the cooked bacon, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and reserved cooking liquid.

Lima Beans Baked for Christmas

Step 6.

Turn into a lightly greased 2-quart casserole.
Sprinkle top with the rest of the bacon.

Step 7.

Bake uncovered for about 20, or until top is browned. Remove and serve immediately.

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce

Can You Make this Christmas Lima Bean Recipe in Advance?

Yes, we have made this the day before the holiday and then reheat in the oven the next day.  Set the oven to about 200 degrees and cover casserole with foil. Let warm for about 20 minutes.  If the oven is crowded with other holiday dishes, it may take a bit longer to warm up.
