It’s no secret that everyone here at DinnerPlanner.com LOVES our poached eggs! But just how healthy are these eggs and how many calories are in a small, medium or large poached egg? It takes practice to make perfect poached eggs, but with just a few attempts you will be on your way to a healthy and delicious breakfast.

We all know that eggs come in different sizes, so that would mean the bigger the egg, the more calories it would contain. Here is the calorie count in sizes –

  • Small Poached Egg – about 55 calories
  • Medium Poached Egg – about 62 calories
  • Large Poached Egg – about 76 calories
  • Jumbo Poached Egg – about 90 calories
  • We believe that poaching an egg is one of the healthiest ways you can cook your morning breakfast eggs.
  • We love poaching our eggs because poaching requires no butter or oil to cook delicious tasting eggs with no added calories or fats.

Healthy Calories in Poached Eggs –

Eggs contain vitamins and mineral necessary for our good health. Just one poached egg contains 6 grams of protein, Potassium, Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron and Vitamin A. Eggs contain no carbs and no sugars. Little power-packed breakfast choice.

Why Poaching is the Healthiest for Eggs –

Cooking eggs at high temperatures, such as scrambling over high heat, can produce certain toxins causing stomach issues for some people. If you have stomach issues when eating fried eggs, definitely give poached eggs a try and you should see a big difference in the tummy.

Does Poaching Eggs Lead to Higher Calories?

No, poaching actually can lead to less calories because there is no butter or oil needed to cook the eggs.

Yum – another one of our favorite ways to serve poached eggs is to make Poached Eggs with Ham. Simply purchase your favorite chipped deli ham and warm the ham in the skillet with a little oil or butter. Lay ham on top of your buttered muffin or toast, followed by your warmed ham and optional warm tomato slice. YUM.

How to Cook The Perfect Poached Egg

What You Will Need to Poach Your Eggs

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 eggs

Bring about an inch of water to a light boil in a small but deeper skillet.  Add the salt and vinegar to the pan. Break eggs one at a time into a small bowl and then gently slip the eggs (one at a time) into the boiling water.  Cover the skillet with a lid and let eggs cook for about 3 minutes before checking. Depending on how runny you want your eggs, cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Soft Poached Eggs – Runny Yolks – about 2 minutes
Hard Poached Eggs – Cooked Yolks – about 4 minutes

Or you Can Buy a Nifty Poacher Pan

Or you can use a small skillet with Egg Poacher Insert –

Instructions – Add about an inch of water to s small skillet. Spray egg poacher insert with non stick spray. Gently crack 3 eggs into the circles. Lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper. Turn heat off; cover and let cook for about 2-4 minutes. Use a spoon to gently lift eggs out of the pan.
