Ingredients

  • 12 oz. Penne Pasta
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 1 28 oz. can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, chopped fine
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil for about  6-7 minutes, adding the butter and garlic in the last two minutes.

  2. Add the can of tomatoes to the pan and break up tomatoes using a spatula.  Sprinkle tomatoes with salt.
  3. Simmer sauce gently for about 20 minutes. You can cook another 5-10 minutes if desired to thiecken sauce more.
  4. Stir in fresh basil leaves. Serve over Penne pasta with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
  5. Cook penne according to package directions, drain and stir 1 additional tablespoon of butter if desired.
