If you could think of one thing that just about everyone loves and reaches for first on the Easter dinner table or at a summer picnic, it would have to be deviled eggs! Do you know what makes the best deviled eggs? Traditional deviled eggs!
The original recipe that has been around forever, and a recipe so traditional that most families will never sway from how they are prepared.
How to Make the Best Deviled Eggs:
Step 1. Hard boil the eggs and let cool enough to touch. Cool eggs quicky by adding them to some cold water. This will also help to keep the eggs from cooking further.
Step 2. Hard boiled eggs are halved and then the hardened yolk scooped out and mashed with mayonnaise and a little yellow mustard. Don’t forget a few sprinkles of salt and pepper. That’s it! And that makes the best deviled eggs.
Step 3. Start with 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 2 teaspoons of yellow mustard. Taste first – and then adjust with more mayonnaise or more mustard. Don’t forget to sprinkle with salt & pepper.
Step 4. Spoon the egg mixture back into the egg whites.

What Ingredients You Need to Make the Best Deviled Eggs:
- Large Fresh Eggs – read more about how to choose the best eggs.
- Mayonnaise
- Yellow or Dijon Mustad
- Salt & Pepper (don’t forget the salt & pepper.)
- Paprika – use to sprinkle on the eggs as a garnish

- 8 eggs hard boiled and peeled
- 3-4 tablespoons real mayonnaise
- 2-3 teaspoons yellow mustard
- salt & pepper

Using a very sharp knife, slice each egg in half lengthwise. Do not use a perforated knife as this can tear the eggs.

Very carefully scoop out the hardened yolk and place them in a bowl. Smash with the back of a fork and then lightly salt and pepper.

Mix in mayonnaise and mustard. Stir with the fork until creamy. Taste and add additional mayonnaise or mustard if necessary. Add additional amount of salt and pepper if needed.

Using a teaspoon, scoop the mixed yolk into each half of the egg. Finish eggs with a sprinkle of paprika.

How Do You Make Christmas Deviled Eggs?
We make our Christmas fancy pants deviled eggs by making the platter beautiful.
Every Christmas there is always a plate of fancy deviled eggs on our table. This plate of eggs makes the table look beautiful and could almost pass for a Christmas centerpiece.
All you need is a white plate, some baby arugula, some fresh cranberries and a couple of sliced olives to make this dish “pop.”
If you’re making Deviled Eggs for a Holiday party or Christmas Dinner, you may want to make two plates of eggs – one with mustard and one without.
It’s actually surprising the number of people that do not like mustard in their Deviled Eggs, so we always make some without.
Should You Add Relish to Deviled Eggs?
Many recipes call for a little added relish or even some horseradish. This is a personal preference. The suggestion would be to make a few eggs and see if you like them that way.
Can You Leave Out the Mustard and Make Deviled Eggs without Mustard?
If you have mustard haters at your table, try making traditional deviled eggs without the mustard – or better yet, make just a few eggs without the added mustard.
Deviled means “zesty” so I guess you could call them undeviled eggs …
So How long Do Deviled Eggs Stay Good in the Refrigerator?
Deviled eggs should last about 3-4 days if covered tightly and left in the fridge. If you want to leave your hard-boiled eggs in the refrigerator – they should last about 1 full week without going bad.
Possible Deviled Egg Variations:
Add chopped fresh herbs
Swap out low fat plain yogurt for the mayonnaise
Add a little pickle relish
Add horseradish
