Yes, we do love our fall …. and this simple recipe for homemade chili on those first cold nights!
We must admit we’re not ready to let go of summer and we will take every warm day we can get. But on these colder days you will always find us making a big pot of CHILI!

We tend to make chili often in the winter and love to experiment with different chili recipes. What always amazes us is that most recipes call for just one can of kidney beans and a rather small amount of sauce or broth. Well, this simple chili recipe has plenty of beans!
So here is one of our favorite recipes that puts SOME BEANS in that chili! Bean it up!
Ingredients for Easy Stove Top Chili:
- Lean ground beef
- Onion – we use yellow onion
- Garlic – fresh garlic
- Kidney beans – dark red or light red is fine
- Black beans – or you can use all kidney beans
- Diced tomatoes – find your favorite brand of diced tomatoes
- Beef broth – can also substitute chicken broth
- Tomato sauce – look for your favorite brand as there are some differences in tomato sauce
- Brown sugar
- Seasonings: Chili powder, dried cumin, dried oregano and paprika
How to Make Simple Chili in just Two Easy Steps!:
- Brown your ground beef, onions and garlic. (You can add a little oil to the pan if necessary. Always salt and pepper the meat as it browns.)
Don’t forget to salt & pepper the hamburger as it browns. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in the rest of the ingredients and simmer uncovered for 20 -25 minutes.

- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, diced
- 1/2 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- salt & pepper
- 2 15.5 oz. cans kidney beans
- 1 15 oz. can black beans
- 1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes
- 1 14.5 can beef broth
- 1 29 oz. can tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano

In a large skillet or soup pan, cook the beef, onion and garlic until the beef is well browned. Season meat half way through cooking with paprika, 1/2 teaspoon oregano, salt and pepper.

Add in the rest of the ingredients; stir well and simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Serve with shredded cheddar cheese.

How to Store Leftover Chili
Chili is easy to reheat to eat later in the week, simply place in a microwave-safe bowl and reheat for about 1 minute. Store chili for up to 4-5 days in a airtight container in the refrigerator. If chili is too thick add a little bit of water or broth to thin before heating.
You can also freeze leftover chili for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat the next day.
You can also easily reheat the chili on your stovetop. Let simmer on medium-low for about 5 minutes or until hot.
