Oven Fried Chicken Legs – Simple Dinner Recipe

Dinner is quick & delicious with the addition of these oven fried chicken legs. We have found that if you arm yourself with simple and tasty dinner recipes, you won’t mind cooking at home more often.

You can actually use chicken thighs or legs to prepare this recipe; either way the chicken is tender,  juicy and baked to perfection.

Chicken legs are always a cheaper dinner option, and even lower in cost if you can find them on sale. The chicken legs and thighs are actually very tasty and one of the best parts of the chicken.

 

Lightly salt  & pepper chicken legs before adding to the casserole dish with butter.

Ingredients
  • 8 chicken legs (about 2-1/2 lbs.)
  • salt & pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup regular dry breadcrumbs (not panko)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried sage
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Using the oven, melt the butter in a 9 x 13 casserole dish. Remove dish from the oven when the butter has melted.

  2. Lightly salt & pepper all of the chicken legs.
  3. Mix together the breadcrumbs, spices and salt. Pour the breadcrumbs into a pan or flat dish.
  4. Place chicken pieces in the casserole dish with the melted butter and turn the pieces until they are well coated with the butter.
  5. Dip each chicken leg into the breadcrumb mixture and turn until well coated. Place the chicken leg back into the casserole dish. Do this with each chicken leg.

  6. Let chicken sit on the counter for 15 minutes.

  7. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

You only need 4 tablespoons of melted butter to make this recipe work. That’s only 1/2 tablespoon of butter per chicken leg so not a ton of calories. Make sure the chicken pieces are well coated with butter before dipping in the breadcrumb mixture.

Make sure the chicken leg pieces are well coated with breadcrumbs. We use Progresso breadcrumbs and they always work very well for this recipe.

Remember – The safe internal temperature for cooked chicken is 165° Fahrenheit.
