Mulled wine is a wine that has added spices and fresh fruits and then warmed to a comforting glass of deliciousness. Mulled wine is also referred to as a Spiced Wine and is typically served around the holidays.
This recipe is a beautiful addition to your typical holiday party adult beverages. It warms you up and looks gorgeous as well. It is a perfect drink to serve from a slow cooker set on low. If you happen to have leftovers, this can be strained and refrigerated for up to 24 hours. Take the fruit out first however, if refrigerated with the fruit and spices, it will become bitter.
Ingredients Needed for Mulled Wine
This Recipe Serves 4
- Bottle dry white wine such a good chardonnay
- Rum
- 1 apple
- 2 oranges
- 1 lemon
- Cinnamon sticks
- Whole cloves
- Cardamom pods
- Star anise
- Honey
How to Make Mulled Wine:
- Combine all ingredients in a medium, non-reactive pot.
- Place on medium-low heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer – be mindful of the heat as you don’t want to cook out the alcohol. Don’t let it cook until it bubbles. The key here is to gently cook. Gently simmer the wine mixture for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.
- Serve into glasses and garnish with more fruit and spices. Enjoy!
