How to Store Leftover Meatball Soup
If you have leftover meatball soup, it’s important to store it properly to ensure its safety and to maintain its quality. Here’s how to store leftover meatball soup:
- Let the soup cool to room temperature: Before storing leftover meatball soup, allow it to cool to room temperature. This will prevent the growth of bacteria and condensation inside the storage container.
- Use an airtight container: Transfer the cooled soup to an airtight container, such as a glass or plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. This will prevent air and moisture from getting into the soup and causing it to spoil.
- Refrigerate promptly: Once the soup has been transferred to the storage container, refrigerate it as soon as possible, within 2 hours of cooking. Keep the soup in the refrigerator at 40°F or below.
- Label the container: Label the container with the date that the soup was prepared and stored. This will help you keep track of how long the soup has been in the refrigerator and when it should be consumed.
- Reheat properly: When you’re ready to eat the leftover meatball soup, reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. This will ensure that any bacteria that may have grown in the soup are killed.
Leftover meatball soup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. If you want to store the soup for a longer period, it’s best to freeze it. Frozen meatball soup can last for up to 3 months.
