Poached Eggs

Definitely a favorite egg of ours – the beloved poached egg. Nothing beats a delicious plate of Eggs Benedict with English muffin, ham or Canadian bacon, poached egg and savory lemony sauce. Learning how to make poached eggs may take a few tries, but once you get the hang of it, you will love these eggs.

Instructions: Bring about an inch of lightly salted water to a boil in a small skillet.  Crack your egg into a small cup and then gently pour the egg into the simmering water. Cover the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes. Cook a bit longer depending on how firm you would like your yolk. You can also add a small amount of white vinegar to the water. There are also Teflon poached egg cups that make this process very easy.

Same as the fried egg, you can time the cooking of the eggs to have the yolks runny or hard. You can learn more about poached eggs here.

A soft-boiled egg where the yolk is still a bit runny is similar to a poached egg. Cook eggs for about 6 minutes in the boiling water.

Two More Easy Ways to Cook an Egg –

omelette

Make an Omelet. An omelet is similar to scrambled eggs with the exception during cooking the eggs are not scrambled but left to cook on very low heat until firm.

Instructions: Beat together 4 eggs, 2 tablespoons of milk or cream and a little salt & pepper. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium-sized skillet on medium heat. Gently pour the egg mixture into the skillet and let cook on low for about 1 minute. Use a spatula to gently start to lift the edges of the egg away from the pan.  Tilt the pan back and forth to get the uncooked parts cooked. Cook for about 2 1/2 minutes or until cooked to your liking. Add cheese to one side of the omelet if desired and then use the spatula to lift and fold over the edge.  You can garnish your omelte  with cooked ham and tomatoes or sprinkle with herbs. Heat up some salsa and add to the top with some Mexican cheese.
