Freshly Homemade or Store-Bought Mashed Potatoes

I’ve been mulling over a tough Thanksgiving decision this year and that is whether to make my beloved homemade mashed potatoes or give in to the temptation of buying store-bought mashed potatoes from Costco.

This has been on my mind for days now and I can’t seem to make a decision either way. I know family and friends will arrive on the big turkey day and they will be expecting mashed potatoes, so I know will have to make up my mind here shorlty or there will be no potatoes left to buy!

Homemade mashed potatoes have always been a tradition at our Thanksgiving table along with gravy bowls filled with homemade gravy. Traditions are very important to me in a world where everything is constantly changing.

Traditions and rituals keep our families healthy because they provide us with a sense of stability and safety knowing that some things (like love) will never change.

Will my family think less of me for changing up the tradition and freeing up a little more time to sleep in on Thanksgiving morning without the endless task of peeling potatoes?

Will my guests and family feel a little cheated because I skimped? Will they feel a little less loved because Costco had a really good potato deal?

When we do our best by our family and friends, and we try to make things special by going the extra mile, we let others know that they are very loved. It’s nice to feel loved. It’s nice to feel special.

I know its only a bowl of potatoes, but it’s a big steep step to break tradition.

So …. stop back and see how it ends! To peel or not to peel this year!

Let us know what you think!
