STEP 1.
COOKING THE EGGS FOR YOUR EGG MCMUFFIN:
An Egg McMuffin has grill fried eggs that look very similar to a poached egg. They are fried on a grill using a ring to hold them in shape. The eggs are then sprayed with a light mist of water and the grill lid is closed so they cook evenly on top and bottom.
Cooking the Poached Eggs. Poached eggs are simple to prepare if you have an egg poacher pan. A pan that can cook and steam eggs similar to what they do at McDonalds. You can read more about this pan here –> Egg Poacher Pan. This is our favorite way to prepare a poached egg. It’s easy and it turns out the most perfect poached eggs.
If you do not have a poached egg pan, then you can quickly poach your eggs in a small skillet using a little bit of boiling water.
How to Easily Poach an Egg in a Small Skillet in Boiling Water
Add a small amount of water to an 8″ skillet. Use a bigger skillet if cooking more eggs. Grease the skillet with oil or butter before adding the water.
Add a little salt to the water.
Bring the water to a light boil.
Crack an egg into a cup and then gently slide the egg into the skillet.
Lower the heat and let simmer for about 3-5 minutes.
You can cover the skillet with a lid for about 1 minute to make sure both sides cook through.
Poached eggs are pretty simple to prepare once you get the hang of it.
STEP 2.
TOASTING THE ENGLISH MUFFIN:
Split the muffins into two pieces. The muffins are presplit so this should easily be done using your hands. This helps to keep both sides uniform in size. Butter both sides of the muffins and lay then face down in a skillet. Cook on medium-high heat until the muffins are nicely browned and toasty.
Or – Toast the muffins in the toaster until golden brown. Butter both sides of the split muffin as soon as you take them out of the toaster. We have found the muffins taste better if they have been toasted a little longer. You may have to toast the muffins twice depending on your toaster settings. This is where salted butter is your friend. Generously butter the muffins when you take them out of the toaster.
Bonus Butter Tip: Melt the butter briefly in the microwave and then drizzle over both sides of the English muffin to fill all of the many nooks and crannies.
STEP 3.
HOW TO COOK THE CANADIAN BACON:
Candian bacon is easy to cook and can even be cooked in the microwave. Since we are using a skillet to toast the English muffins, you can also easily cook the Canadian bacon in the same skillet. Most Canadian bacon is precooked so reheating in simple. Simply lightly spray the skillet with nonstick spray and lay the Canadian bacon down in the skillet. Cook both sides for about 45 seconds. You can even coat the bottom of the skillet with a small amount of butter before cooking.
If you are in a hurry, you can always heat the Canadian bacon in the microwave.
