EASY FRENCH DIP SANDWICHES (2 Recipes)
Make this savory French Dip sandwich with a beef chuck roast or make a quicker version with sliced roast beef from the deli.
The French Dip Sandwich is a spectacular sandwich that blends warm beef with a savory dipping broth or au jus sauce. When you pair your favorite roll with tender roast beef, and a warm side of au jus sauce, a delicious sandwich is born.
There are two important ingredients to a French Dip Sandwich. The bread and the dipping broth. A French or “crusty” roll works well with this sandwich to soak up the delicious au jus
Cheese? Well, if you please! Grab some Provolone slices or white American cheese from the deli.
Here are two of our favorite ways to prepare the French Dip Sandwich and A Few Side Dish Suggestions.
Crockpot French Dip
3 lb. Beef Chuck Roast
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon beef bouillon
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Rub beef roast with olive oil and lightly salt and pepper.
Place beef roast in a slow cooker or crockpot. Add beef broth, soy sauce, bouillon and seasonings. Cover and cook on medium-high for 4-5 hours or low 7-8 hours.
Remove beef from broth to a platter; shred beef with two forks. Strain broth and skim off any fat. Pour broth into small cups for dipping. Serve beef on your favorite hard rolls, sliced and warmed in the oven.
Quick and Delicious French Dip
1 lb. roast beef from the Deli
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon beef bouillon
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 tsp. black pepper
Melt butter in a medium sauce pan and gently cook garlic for about 2 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan, except the deli beef.
Let simmer for about 10 minutes and then add the deli beef to the pan. Cook for an additional 5 minutes on low. Carefully remove beef slices with a tong. Serve on heated French buns and a side of Au jus.

Easy French Dip Side Dish –
Fried Rosemary Potatoes – 2 lbs. small new potatoes. Boil potatoes in salted water for about 20-30 minutes, or until fork tender. Drain and let dry for a few minutes. Cut into slices or smaller pieces and add to a medium skillet. Fry in 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Salt and Pepper as the potatoes cook and sprinkle with a small amount of dried rosemary. You can also add some freshly chopped garlic to the pan.
Deli Coleslaw – 1 Bag of Coleslaw Mix. Mix about 3/4 cup of mayonnaise with 2 tablespoons each of milk, apple cider vinegar and sugar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust sauce to your taste before mixing with coleslaw. Mix with the bag of coleslaw. Cover and leave in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
Tater Tots with Cheese – Bake tater tots as direction buy sprinkle with small amount of salt and garlic powder. During the last few minutes of baking, sprinkle with cheddar or mozzarella cheese.
Side Salad with Ranch Dressing – Simple salad of lettuce, tomato, blue cheese crumbles and plenty of Ranch dressing. We love Ken’s Ranch Dressing. Or make an easy Caeser salad in the bag.
How Much Beef Roast to Purchase?
We typically figure with cooking in the slow cooker to purchase about 1/2 of a lb. per person. That leaves plenty for a few bigger sandwiches and some leftovers.
What is the Best Bun to Use for French Dip Sandwiches?
Traditional French Rolls.
We like hard rolls from the bakery that aren’t too hard on the outside. Slice on the diagonal.
What to Do with Leftovers?
You can store leftover roast beef in an airtight container for about 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
Make French Dip Sliders later on in the Week!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a casserole dish with nonstick spray. Cut the top section off of a package of King’s Hawaiian Sweet Butter Rolls. Lay the bottom section of the buns in the casserole dish. Layer the roast beef and then some pieces of provolone cheese. Lay the top section of the bun over top. Brush tops of buns with melted butter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake for 15-20 minutes. Cut sandwiches apart and dip in any extra au jus.
