How to Make Easy White Sauce for Spaghetti or Pasta
White Sauce is so easy to prepare and is one of our favorite sauces because it’s not only the base for a perfect Alfredo sauce for spaghetti or pasta, but it is the basic sauce for pairing with vegetables. When you add an orange cheese like cheddar or Velveeta, this sauce is also that perfect base for a cheesy sauce for your family macaroni and cheese dish. Try our delicious Velveeta Mac and Cheese!
Start this white sauce with an easy roux. A roux is just flour and some type of fat (butter) cooked together to thicken a sauce with milk.

Learn How to Make a Delicious White Sauce for Spaghetti or Pasta
- 12 oz. spaghetti
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1-1/2 cups fresh grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, rinse and set aside.

Using medium high heat, melt butter in a large skillet. Cook garlic in butter for about 30 seconds. Add a lilttle salt and pepper to the butter and garlic as it cooks.

Slowly add flour to the melted butter, stir constantly using a spatula, Let cook for about 1-2 minutes.,

Slowly add milk, stirring constantly.

Stir sauce until well blended. When blended, stir in the cheese and continue to stir until the cheese has melted.

Add sauce to the warm cooked spaghetti or pasta.
STEP 1 – This goes fast so make sure everything you need is right at your finger tips. Make sure your milk is poured & measured and your flour is ready.
STEP 2 – Start your white sauce by melting the butter in a small sauce pan. Melt the butter on medium to high heat, but be careful not to burn. You can also add finely chopped garlic to the butter and let cook for about 1 minute before adding the flour.
STEP 3 – Slowly sprinkle flour into the pan, stirring as you go.
STEP 4 – Keep your heat medium high and stir for about 30 seconds. Add salt & pepper while stirring.
STEP 5 – Slowly add milk, stirring constantly as you go.
Once well blended and thickened – it’s done! Great Job!
Once your white sauce has been prepared, add the cheese and stir until melted through. If your sauce is too thick just add a little bit of milk.
