THUMBS UP MEAL OF THE WEEK:
|
|
DAY 1's Best-in-the-South Pulled Pork Sandwiches were without a doubt this week's favorite. The DP taste-testers in this group are sorry they didn't grow up in the South, where they would have been eating these all along. For those of you long-time subscribers, this is a completely different recipe from our previously-offered Pulled Pork Sandwiches. Let us know which one you prefer! This can also be prepared in a
crockpot/slowcooker. Follow the same directions, and cook on low for 8-10 hours. If you want to add a little zip to your cole slaw, add about a tablespoon of prepared horseradish to the dressing.

Hint:
Many times our recipes call for shredded, or grated,
cheeses. We usually recommend buying a quantity of cheese
for you to shred yourself. This is the most economical way
to go, and we're always looking for ways to cut the grocery
bill. However, while a little more expensive, the
pre-shredded cheeses available in the stores certainly save
time. So check the amount needed for your recipes, and buy
it shredded if you prefer.
If you don't own a bread machine, you might
want to look into buying one. They are reasonably-priced
now, and the manufacturers seem to have worked out the
glitches with loaf size, bread density, etc. During the
winter months especially, many of our dinners have a bread
product for a side. While we recommend a variety of these
sides from rolls to biscuits, nothing beats a warm loaf of
homemade bread. The assembly time is next to nothing, and
there are no preservatives, either. Just compliments!
If you do not enjoy the taste of wine,
please substitute apple juice.

DINNER REVIEW |
|
| Remember
- at your first opportunity- read over the recipes to
see which meals you need time to marinate the meat, or
prepare something else in advance! |
This Week....
DAY 2's Deliciously Different Chicken was well received, too. The longer you simmer the sauce, the more it flavors the chicken. The Marinated Carrots recipe was a favorite of the late Fred Rogers of "Mister Rogers Neighborhood".
DAY 6's
Sweet and Sour Pork was another favorite. Fortunately for some of us with "rice-hating" kids, the pork was so tasty that the complaining about the rice was kept to a minimum.
DAY 7's Marinated Beef Roast was a delicious and easy choice! We baked the roast until it was fork tender, and it literally fell apart when we cut it. The gravy is tasty, too, because of the wine marinade. Save this for special occasions- they'll be calling you Julia Child before you know it!

This week's dessert, Banana Split Cake, is as easy as it is good! Enjoy this non-melting version of an all-time favorite.
